Чип получил рабочее название Memory Spot. По словам HP, преимуществом устройства являются отнюдь не компактные размеры (ведь при этом он способен хранить сравнительно небольшой объем информации), а скорость передачи данных. Хотя к моменту официального релиза объем памяти прототипа может быть увеличен. В перспективе, чип будет использоваться в устройствах для обнаружения наркотических веществ, а также для хранения данных о пациентах в больницах и даже отвечать за звуковое и видеосопровождением в поздравительных открытках.

Такой вид чипов, по словам HP, будет интересен и с точки зрения OEM-производства. Разработчик не исключает того, что оптовая цена Memory Spot составит не более доллара за штуку.
