Новые рынки - такие как азиатско-тихоокеанский, африканский и латиноамериканский - все еще обеспечивают рост продаж в мировом масштабе, однако достаточно низкий уровень прибылей производителей говорит о том, что этот рост компенсируется насыщением наиболее прибыльных рынков сбыта в западных странах.

По мнению представителей Informa Telecoms and Media, теперь основная задача производителей мобильных телефонов - это убедить пользователей мобильной связи регулярно менять свои "трубки" на более современные аппараты.

Между тем мобильные телефоны "третьего поколения" пока что не оправдывают ожиданий производителей. Согласно прогнозу к 2008 году продажи 3G-телефонов составят лишь четверть от общемировых.

Не нашел, по мнению авторов исследования, своего места на рынке и сервис MMS (multimedia messaging services), позволяющий пользователям обмениваться не только текстовыми сообщениями, но и фотографиями. Основным препятствием здесь стало чрезмерно сложное для рядового пользователя программное обеспечение, необходимое для использования MMS.
